Jesus/Mary (Peace be Upon Them)* In The Quran

In the Name of Allah, The Compassionate, Source of All Mercy. The name of Jesus and his mother Mary occurs in the Quran over 25 times. In fact there is a whole chapter called Mary where the Virgin's birth is mentioned. The Quran states that Allah chose Mary and her parents (P.B.U.T). Allah purified Mary and raised her above all other women of the world (See chapter Mary in the Quran.)

WHAT IS THE QURAN? The Quran is the Word of Allah revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H.) over a period of 23 years. The period of time was for the duration of Muhammad's (P.B.U.H ) prophetic mission from the age of forty until he died at the age of sixty three.

The Quran is the universal miracle of the Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H.). It claims at guiding all people in every aspect of their lives for all time and touches on all topics concerned with guidance and it still remains in its original form.

The message of the Virgin Mary and her son Jesus (P.B.U.T.) in the Quran is far too important to be ignored. So we must read it for ourselves.

THE VIRGIN MARY The wife of Imran, Mary's mother, vowed to dedicate her child to the service of Allah in the Temple. (Quran 3:35-36). It is said that it was because of Hannah's prayer for Mary and her offspring that Satan could not touch either her or Jesus (P.B.U.H.) when they were born. The Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H.) said

"There is no one among the tribe of Adam who is not touched by Satan at the time of birth and it is the touch of Satan which makes a child cry when it is born - except for Mary and her son." (AI-Bukhari). Mary was a righteous woman. (Quran 5:75). Her mother dedicated her to Allah's service even before she was born. Allah chose her above all women of her lifetime. (Quran 3:42).

THE GOOD NEWS The angels brought Mary the good news about the birth of a 'Word' from Allah. The word was 'Be!' and he was! Jesus son of Mary. (Quran 3:45-47). He was not conceived in the usual way, but was implanted in the womb of the Virgin Mary. Allah simply commanded, "Be! And he was. In this sense, he was 'a Word of Allah' (Quran 4:171) and a special sign for humanity. In fact, he was the last in a long line of messengers of Allah sent to the children of Israel. (Chapter Mary). Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H.) is the Las Prophet sent for the whole of mankind until the Day of Judgement. (Quran 7:158 & 21:107).

The creation of Jesus (P.B.U.H.) is one of the signs of Allah showing His ability of creating as He wills: form a male and female (ourselves); from a male without a female (Eve), from a female without a male (Jesus [P.B.U.H.]) and from neither a male nor female (Adam [P.B.U.H.]).

THE MIRACLES According to the Quran Jesus (P.B.U.H.) was aided by many miracles to prove he was a true messenger. Jesus (P.B.U.H.) was the product of a miracle. He could perform miracles; bring the dead back to life, heal the leper & cure the blind all by Allah's will. He was blessed by Allah, born by Allah's will to do His service. (Quran 5:110) Because of the Quran Muslims love, respect and honour Jesus (P.B.U.H.) as they love, respect and honour the Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H.). Moreover, the Quran reports some of Jesus' (P.B.U.H.) miracles which are not reported in the Synoptic Gospels. For example in Chapter Mary in defence of his mother and of the truth Jesus spoke in the cradle. Throughout his youth Jesus (P.B.U.H.) remained dutiful to his mother and developed quickly in intelligence, wisdom and piety. In another place Jesus (P.B.U.H.) was able to make a creation out of clay in the likeliness of a bird, then breathing into it to become a soaring being, to mention just a few. (Quran 3:49)

There is an indication of the second coming of Jesus (P.B.U.H.) before the Day of Judgement in the Quran (4:159). The second coming of Jesus (P.B.U.H.) is mentioned in detail in the sayings of Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H.). He will come to correct the notion which people have developed about his personality and his mission and to kill the 'Anti-Christ'.

JESUS & MUHAMMAD (P.B.U.T) IN RELIGIOUS SCRIPTURES "And when Jesus, son of Mary said: 0 children of Israel Lo! I am the messenger of Allah unto you confirming that which was (revealed) before me in the Torah, and bringing good tidings of a messenger who cometh after me whose name is the praised one. (Ahmad - A name of the Prophet of Arabia) When he hath come unto them with-clear proof they say: This is mere magic." (Quran 61:6). The promised 'Comforter' was believed by many Christian communities of the East to be a prophet yet to come and most of them accepted Muhammad as that prophet. There are so many places in the Bible of today where a righteous reader finds clear references to the coming of the final messenger of the Almighty on earth; Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H.). The New Testament says in the word of Jesus (P.B.U.H.): 'And I will pray the Father and He shall give you another Comforter.' (John 14:16) The word 'Comforter' is the English translation of the Greek work -PERICLYTOS' which is almost a literal translation of the Aramaic or Hebrew word 'MAUHAMANA' used by Jesus (PB U.H.) himself and which identifies with the name of the Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H.) (See Gen. 21:18, Gen. 21:10,Deut 18:18.)

READ THE QURAN THE FINAL REVELATION Make TODAY your opportunity. Start slough the Quran where you will find information on Jesus (P.B.U.H.). o The details of Jesus (P.B.U.H.) and Mary's divinity is presented in the Quran as a topic of dialogue on the Day of Judgement between Almighty Allah and Jesus (P.B.U.H.). (Quran 5:116-118) o Do not let today's politics and the wrong doings of some Muslims stand between you and knowing about the final revelation i.e. the Quran. o There are glad tidings to the obedient ones (i.e. paradise) that can be achieved by a result of having the right belief. (Quran 47:15) o The Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H.) said, "He who has believed in his religion then believed in what is revealed to me be rewarded twice (by Allah)." That is once for believing in his faith and the other for recognising truth and believing Islam.

There are 25 Prophets mentioned in the Quran. All are righteous and Jesus (P.B.U.H.), by name, is mentioned in the following verses:

Surah 2 The Cow (AI-Baqarah) Verses 87,136,253, Surah 3 The Family of Imraan (Aali Imraan) Verses 42-64, 84, Surah 4 Women (An-Nisaa) Verses 156-159,171 -172 Surah 5 The Table Spread (AI-Maaidah) Verses 17, 46, 72,75, 78,110-120, Surah 6 Cattle (AI-An'aam) Verse 85, Surah 9 Repentance (At-Tawbah) Verses 30-31, Surah 19 Mary (Maryam) Verses 15-36, Surah 21 The Prophets (AI-Ambiyaa) Verse 91, Surah 23 The Believers (AI-Mu'minoon) Verse 50, Surah 33 The Clans (AI-Ahzaab) Verse 7, Surah 42 Counsel (Ash-Shuraa) Verse 13, Surah 43 Ornaments of Gold (Az-Zukhruf) Verse 27, Surah 57 iron (AI-Hadeed) Verse 27, Surah 61 The Ranks (As-Saff) Verses 6,14.
